Tribalieve Dance Company, the studio's dance troupe, are all ATS® teacher certified. (www.fcbd.com) Our travels keep us dancing regularly and performing for benefits and events, locally within the US and Europe. The dancers, when performing, typically wear vibrant and colorful skirts and costuming, adding to the folkloric flavor. They will often play zils (finger cymbals) to accompany their music and choreography.
Tamara, having a professional personal training career in her past, as well as a background in nutrition, has taken this style to the next level. She has added her own creative spin: in addition to bellydance there are infusions of contemporary and modern dance, and hip-hop. Her classes are high energy and fun, with exciting and eclectic music. While many of those who take her classes come from various dance backgrounds such as ballet, modern, lyrical, jazz and Latin, anyone from any level of dance, even the most beginner, is welcome and can fit in!
About The Gobbah
The Gobbah Dance Studio, a specialty dance studio that focuses on dancing for fitness and craft, was founded in 2011 by Tamara Babun. Tamara and her troupe members of Tribalieve Dance Company, have been dancing and performing together since 2007.
The Studio has since grown and has become a beautiful and close-knit community of dancers, moms, wives, and professionals, active in our community, who come together to explore our shared love of dance, community and friendship.
The dance that inspires these members is a community-based dance called American Tribal Style (ATS®), which was created by Carolena Nericcio of Fat Chance Belly Dance, back in the early 1970's in San Francisco.
In ATS®-style dance, the dancers move in formations, looking to a lead dancer who offers subtle cues and gestures as to which dance sequence is coming up next. Once the vocabulary and cues are learned, this allows for a very free-spirited, dance in-the-moment, kind of expression. There are also many choregraphed pieces that dancers learn as well.
